So I got multiple requests for a part two to "Last Resort", so here it is~
~*~

You rapped your knuckles against the door to the Akashi Manor as nervous butterflies ran rampant in your chest. It was only yesterday that Akashi had gotten down on his hands and knees and apologized for his mistakes. You were still digesting the entirety of the rare and one-time occurrence.
Akashi had made it memorable, as he did with most things, and it had meant something to you.
To your surprise the door wasn't opened by Sebastian, the regular staff man, but your boyfriend instead.
"Sei-kun." You smiled.
"Ah~ (Name). You did come." He looked just the slightest bit relieved and stepped aside to allow you in.
"Sei-Kun, where is everyone?" You asked as the Manor was uncharacteristically silent.
"They have the night off," he shuffled with an agitated look on his face. "Because my father has returned."
You winced, recalling the words you had parted with when the two of you had broken up.
"Is this a bad time?"
"I wish it could be. He wants to meet you." Akashi scowled.
You put a hand on his shoulder. "I will be fine. I held my own against you right?" You reasoned somewhat awkwardly.
Akashi's mouth twisted in a slightly amused smile, "That was...offensive to say the least." He chuckled bitterly.
You cringed, "S-sorry." You paused, "Here, I brought you something." You smiled and pulled out a brightly red and gold wrapped rectangular package. "don't open it until after dinner." You advised.
Akashi quirked a brow, "Why (Name), are you ordering me around in my own home?" He asked slyly.
You rolled your eyes, "Oh, hush." You scoffed in exasperation and pressed a light kiss to his cheek.
Akashi set the somewhat weighty package on a table nearby and took your hand, "This way."
Your long black dress swished flowingly as you were quickly pulled along and through a set of double doors. You gaped as the doors had led to a great dining hall where a man sat proud and tall in his seat staring with critical expectancy at you and his son.
"Be seated." He commanded and Akashi moved stiffly to a seat, gesturing to your place at the table.
Akashi sat opposite to his father and you sat in a seat near Akashi.
Tension was thick in the air as the fire crackled and everyone began cutting into their already set out food without speaking. You couldn't help but feel the food was tasteless and disgusting as the tense air ruined the atmosphere.
"Ms. (L. Name)." Akashi's father spoke up in a voice that exuded power and dominance.
"Uh, hai sir?" You replied as evenly and professionally as I could.
The man gave you and appraising look before signing heavily as if disappointed, "While I would much rather marry my son off to a woman that would benefit us I fear my son's incompetence and inability to conform to someone he does not love would ruin the proposal." He grunted and you inwardly burst with anger, "Since he has taken an interest in the likes of you, please tell me...what are your benefits?"
"I beg your pardon?" You asked, still very confused.
"You are his, no? If you one day end up his housewife, what qualities can your offer to this family. Of course you will be providing a heir, but besides your obligations-."
"Father, that is no way to speak to (Name)." Akashi growled.
"Do not interrupt me boy."
"You insult her father!"
"Akashi! Silence yourself." The older man glowered.
You sat there feeling awkward as the two men bickered louder and louder. You, unable to take it anymore, stood up, slammed your hands down on the table, and bellowed, "I'M PREGNANT!"
The two men instantly silenced to stare at you in shock and you held up a finger, "Before anyone says ANYTHING...no. I am not pregnant. It was just to get you to stop shouting. It is very uncouth and rude to shout at the dinner table. If a so-called "commoner amongst the nobles" knows this better than you two Seijuro's then we have an issue at hand."
The two averted their eyes in defiance and merely settled to glare at one another. You seated yourself and sighed, "To answer your questions...a heir has not crossed our minds and as much as we've been through I don't believe we've scratched deep enough in our relationship to think about those things just yet." You squeezed Akashi's hand under the table, "We recently went through a bump in our relationship and it's being patched up, slowly but surely."
Akashi's father nodded approvingly, "So you have the gall to endure rough times with my son. It's a start, even if minuscule." He grunted, obviously unimpressed, "What else? What can you do as a housewife?"
"...I intend to work Mr. Akashi." You replied.
"No." He scowled, "You will not. It is not your place to work."
Your eye twitched, "I beg your pardon, but you don't really have a day in that."
"You will not marry my son if you intend to go against our rules."
"Father." Akashi spoke up tensely, "When she grows older (Name) will be running a business. She's inheriting a popular store from her parents."
"Popular store? Tell me more."
You raised a brow, unsure as to why your family business was so important to him, but complied.
"My family owns a currently stand-alone business selling herbs, teas, therapy solutions, and other traditional and relevant services and products, most of which are made on site. We also sell services to those who want homemade remedies they don't have the knowledge or ingredients to access. Due to the location and our contracts with more traditionally led families in the surrounding area our business does particularly well." You supplied.
Mr. Akashi linked his fingers together and hummed, quietly thinking. "Akashi." He spoke loudly, "Continue as you were with Ms. (L. Name) here. But I expect to hear "reports" from you from time to time." He stood up and gave him a pointed look, "You may excuse yourself when you're done."
With that, Sei-kun's father left the kitchen. When he was out of earshot Akashi scowled and gripped his utensils until his knuckles turn white.
"What just happened?" You asked.
"He thinks he might be able to turn you into an investment if we marry." Akashi grumbled.
You patted his shoulder affectionately, yelping in surprise as he stands up and yanks you into a kiss.
"You're mine." He growled possessively but sighed as you raised a brow. "Um."
You chuckled, "Most couples just say 'I love you'." You snickered. "Have you ever dated someone before?"
"Yes," he answered with disinterest, "but none of the affairs lasted very long."
"I see."
"..."
"..."
"Let's play shogi." Akashi suggested but you tsked him much to his anger.
"What now?!" He scowled, assuming you were scolding him for his attitude once more.
You laughed, "It's nothing like that, Akashi. Did you forget your present already?" You teased.
Akashi rolled his eyes and leaned in close, "Watch it."
"Fine, fine." You chuckled as he pressed a quick kiss to your forehead.
The two of you quickly relocated the present you had brought and Akashi brought you up to his room to unwrap it and set up a Shogi board.
"Alright! Open it already!" You bounced excitedly.
"Calm down (Name). Your hair is a mess now." He lectured gently.
"Oh screw the hair. Present. Now."
Akashi sighed in exasperation and made a big show of carefully peeling off the wrapping paper so it wouldn't tear merely to annoy you.
You stuck your tongue out at him only to whine when he flicked it. Hard. Clicking your tongue quietly, you watched with excited anticipation as Akashi finally peeled away the last corners of the wrapped gift.
A set of polished chestnut colored wood engraved with a mix of archaic and Hellenistic carving styles.
"What is it?" Akashi asked.
"Open it." You urged.
He did so and was surprised to see the inside of both long wooden blocks were carved with spherical indentions.
"It's a Mancala board." You told him. "I used to play this all the time." You giggled, "It's a count-and-capture game and this is the most simplistic style, Kalah."
Akashi watched with interest, content as you explained the rules and concepts of the game.
Akashi knew there would be other hardships to come in the future. That's just how it was going to be. But he would gladly fight to keep you by his side.
And he knew you would too.
I don't think it would be considered a sequel as much as it would be considered as an extra scene or a follow-up story.
Eh, I kind of let the snowball roll and it seems that it rolled itself out.
Still don't own that preview image
